Germering, May 6, 2022.
At GeBE Elektronik und Feinwerktechnik in Germering, a specialist in thermal printing, four female students were guests on April 28, 2022. For all of them it was the first Girls’ Day, the nineteenth for GeBE. But even for the host it is always exciting this day. Especially this year, Sandra Pabst, Managing Director and Co-owner of the family business, faced a new task: Three of the four registered participants came to her to learn more about the topic „I Will Be the Boss“, the IHK Girls’ Day offer.
One of the students therefore enjoyed the classic Girls’ Day technology workshops at GeBE, including assembling and soldering an electronic circuit, this year with the creation of a LED flashlight with colored flashing function and USB connection. The other three girls learned in direct exchange with the boss what the family business GeBE stands for and what the daily routine of entrepreneur Sandra Pabst looks like. „Being an entrepreneur means being able to create according to your own ideas and also experiencing certain freedoms; it simply means being responsible for the company 24/7. That requires perseverance and means having to put your own best foot forward more often than not. It was very important for me to show the students both perspectives,“ she concludes.
At the final design and milling of a workpiece, the four students came together again in the afternoon. A metal keychain was individually designed and was gladly taken home as a memento of an enlightening day.
Goal: To reach girls sustainably
GeBE is committed year after year to ensuring that the participants of Girls‘ Day gain as much personal experience as possible. „Our goal is to reach the girls in a sustainable way. We never know what path the girls who have been with us will ultimately choose. And we always very much hope that we have been able to contribute in some way to awakening a lasting trust in the new and the unknown, or even to bringing the affinity for a technical profession to the surface,” said the managing director.
All the more wonderful when this happens on-site. This year, the participant in the hands-on experience section was particularly pleased with her work result and wants to soon apply for an internship at the thermal printer manufacturer. The three „I will be the boss“ participants were also satisfied with the extensive input on the many daily tasks and volunteer activities of the GeBE boss. Ideally, this will help them somewhat in a few years to make a decision in favor or against entrepreneurship.
At GeBE, about 50% women work, many of whom are in the technical field – from development to production planning to manufacturing. For this reason, the family-run business always keeps the desire for the best possible balance between work and family in mind.
