Linerless-Upgrade: VARIO Plus Linerless Thermodrucker jetzt in Print&Apply Systemen von IMA Labeling

New printer in the GeBE portfolio stands for easy handling, short service times, and supports reduction of downtime.

Germering, March 17, 2026

With the GeBE-VARIO Plus Linerless, GeBE GeBE Elektronik und Feinwerktechnik GmbH, Germany, offers a thermal printer solution for different Print&Apply applications that also allows existing labeling lines to be efficiently converted to linerless labels – an important factor when it comes to minimizing interference with ongoing operations and downtime.

At IMA Labeling, Italy, part of IMA Group, a global leader in the design and manufacturing of automation solutions for packaging and processing, the printer is integrated into the ZERO eLinear and ZERO Volt770. These systems are currently developed as proof-of-concept solutions and enable the printing and application of linerless labels directly on packages or products in automated packaging, logistics and end-of-line identification processes across multiple industries. While the ZERO Volt770 concept is particularly suited for high-throughput logistics and e-commerce environments, ZERO eLinear has been designed as a more flexible solution that can be integrated into a wide range of automated packaging and production lines.

The printer’s unique “side-loading” design speeds up access to maintenance areas. Changing paper rolls takes only a fraction of the time typically required for this task. Overall, handling is easier to plan, system availability increases, and downtime is reduced.

Obligatory: reduction in downtime factor

Serviceability and changeover times are crucial for system availability. The GeBE-VARIO Plus Linerless‘ areas close to the adhesive are quickly accessible. Components such as the linerless print roller or the print head can be replaced quickly, and roll changes can be significantly shortened. They usually take several minutes each, but here they take less than a minute – an immediate lever for reducing downtime during operation.

Often underestimated: roll handling factor

Less obvious, but particularly relevant in operation is that linerless significantly changes roll handling. Without the liner, rolls are typically around 40% smaller and – depending on the diameter – noticeably lighter. This makes everyday handling easier, reduces space requirements in warehousing and production, and opens up more scope in confined installation situations for Print&Apply systems. At the same time, roll supply can be better planned across shifts – especially where roll changes are critical for ergonomic or space reasons.

Obvious: the CO₂ footprint factor

The key advantages of linerless are obvious: the carrier material (liner) is eliminated, waste and disposal costs are reduced, and internal material logistics relating to collection, storage, and transport are significantly reduced. All in all, this supports sustainability goals in the labeling process and can have a positive impact on the CO₂ footprint – especially with high label volumes. In addition, label lengths can be cut as needed, which makes material use more efficient.
